10. Sarawak Peppers (Black & White)
* stock them as many as i can, put inside my luggage and bring them back to W.Msia.
* a packet of 5 small bottles like picture above, cost me around RM10 the most, pass them
around as souvenir or keep it in the kitchen as food saviour.
* can't find any substitute for Sarawak local peppers (seriously). Other brands seem to be lack
of the ommph taste (found out that because they mix it with rice or corn flour).
* well, enough said if i tell you that---> MY BOWL OF SOUP MUST HAVE PEPPERS!
9. Curry Powder the 888 Brand
* I can't explain one thing and that is why curry (sarawak or at my home) taste different than
curry here? Is it because of the curry powder used or the cooking method?
* But i sure know how to cook a feel-so-home curry.. (yeay to me). the secret lies in...
Serbuk Kari cap 888!
* Always buy lots of this to bring back. Anytime i miss mum's curry, i'll cook my own.
* Nothing beat chicken curry with hot steamy rice...argh...salivating!
8. The Golden Terung Dayak/Terung Iban/ Sarawak Tomato
* Found only in Sarawak, this fruit (or vege?) is awesome! Has a sour taste to it.
* Can be fried, throw in soup, ulam or anything. My favourite recipe is to cook it with Smiling
Fish Sardines in Sauce (no.7) That will give you sweet, sour & spicy dish.
* Grandma grew them in the farm, but this vege is kinda seasonal. Will be easier & cheaper to
get during harvesting time (paddy) i guess..
7. Smiling Fish Sardines in Chilli Sauce
* The one that always manage to make me forgot my diet (kononnya).. white rice with
this.. one word= YUMMY!
* It's a Thai brand, and i can't find it here in Kajang OR Bangi Or anywhere...
* Mummy know better, always remind me to buy. And yes, there is another brand
(Wee)... not as good as this one
6. Ikan Gonjeng Masin (Salted Fish)
* Not a must, but will be good if stored at home for emergency use.
* There is time where... the crave for something salty arise, aite?
5. Rempah Laksa Sarawak
* Who will leave Sarawak without this??? No one.
* Well, i have build the reputation of being a Laksa cooker among friends. And this
rempah, is a must have in the fridge.
4. Ikan Terubok Masin
* Not a fan of it, too bony for me.
* A famous item among the local and tourist.
* May i say, it can be our 3rd mascot after Horbill & Orang utan
3. Kicap Tong Nam
* I know, why the hell this Kicap is so important?
* Because we can't buy it here in Peninsular.
* Ask any sarawakian you know, Tong Nam is one thing in common, we can't live with out it.
2. Kek Lapis Sarawak
* They are in beautiful layers, patterns and flavours.
* You are mesmerize by its look, melted by its taste.
* Nothing beat them, not even Secret Recipes.
* A famous souvenir from Land of the Hornbill
1. The Unbeatable Kolo Mee
* You board a flight to somewhere out of Kuching, you smell something.. you smell food
* hey sorry, that is just my kolo mee tapau in my hand carry. (be careful so that you don't get
caught). wrapped them nicely, no smell no fuss.
* getting used to tapau a lots of this everytime went back to hometown. people will keep on
asking to help them tapau.
